Story

From 8th - 10th May Kj, Sarah & Amy will challenge themselves to bike from the Mountain Cafe in Aviemore to Braemar & run back through the Lairig Ghru to raise money for Myeloma UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, awesome charities who have been a fantastic support to Kj & her husband during his ongoing cancer journey.

My Hubby Al was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (blood cancer) in 2016. After 3 years of battling this cancer, 2 stem cell transplants & two rounds of chemo Al now has progressive myeloma. Our year is kicking off with Al starting a new treatment regime, a new family of drugs & again stepping into the unknown of what this year will bring, while we to try to control this stubborn disease.

Al has continued to Mountain bike even though he was told he may never bike again in the early days of diagnosis. I have decided that if Al can continue to mountain bike while living with two spinal fractures & undergoing chemo then this workaholic chef can bike to Braemar from the cafe & run back through the Lairig Ghru. Al was the person who introduced me to biking & the outdoors. Before meeting him I was your stereotypical overweight unhealthy chef. I am determined to do this challenge to raise awareness for myeloma, raise money to help with research, have something positive to focus on while getting fit & also thank Al for introducing me to the great Scottish outdoors.

Sarah (a hardcore runner & hill walker) & Amy (a long distance cyclist & outdoor lover) who are both part of our Mountain Cafe team will be joining me in the adventure. They have been an incredible support, while kicking my butt, motivating me to get me out running after work. I couldn’t ask for a more caring, motivated & crazy team of ladies to do this with.

We are aiming to raise £1,500 for Myeloma UK & £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Any support you can give would be amazing.

Thank you
