Story
In October I will go out to South Africa, along with 15 others, to put the finishing touches to a creche and after school drop in centre that are being built ahead of our arrival - the purpose of these buildings is to provide a safe place for children to go whilst parents work and reduce the horrendous child abuse rates - 57% are abused because they have nowhere safe to go. As a mum this struck a cord with me!
This will be a huge personal challenge for me both mentally and physically. However, I am fortunate enough, to work flexibly around my children with my Utility Warehouse business. Here in the UK, many take these provisions for granted and yet out there these 2 buildings will literally change lives, and future lives!
Imagine the difference this will make to each and every child - a hot meal, a safe place, no more abuse. The children can grow up the way every child should have a right to - playing, laughing, learning...instead of in fear. By providing these basic facilities our vision is to leave a legacy by creating a 'ripple effect' of change too - not only will their lives be changed forever, so will their family's lives and future generations won't grow up with this current situation being 'the norm'.
Each of us involved in this project need to raise £3000. I'm already on my way having organised a Frock Swap evening which raised £435 and I am now organising The Purple Aid Ball which takes place on Saturday 27th May, at The Old Shire Hall in Warwick. Tickets are just £60 to include a 3 course meal, drink on arrival, live music by 'Michael Duble', DJ and guest speaker and author Alison Delanay. There will be a raffle and an auction of prizes donated by local businesses, friends and family by David Palmer. Tables of 8 or more are also available at £55 a head.
