    Story

Carlene has been a friend of mine for 17 years. She is 34 years old and back in August 2015, shortly after having her 4th child, she discovered a lump within her right breast. After consulting her doctor, she was given the shocking news that she had grade 3 breast cancer. She started chemotherapy in December 2015 just as her six month old son had become critically ill.

Sadly, this meant that Carlene was unable to see her son throughout his brain surgery treatment, as her immune system had been totally wiped out by the chemo. This meant she was open to infections and further illness. This left her heartbroken as for a time, it was touch & go for her son.

In October of 2015, Carlene had a lumpectomy, unfortunatly surgeons could not remove all of the tumour, meaning she needed a second operation, just a few weeks later.

Still not cancer free, she was then told she needed to undergo months of chemotherapy to prevent the cancer from spreading. As she was starting her treatment, her son took ill again and was rushed to hospital and then transferred to Sheffield children's hospital so surgeons could operated to drain fluid from his brain, but just 24 hours later, it returned and his stitches popped open. After further treatment her son was sent home for Christmas Day but then had to be rushed back to hospital on Boxing Day with signs of a brain infection. Realising the seriousness of his condition, medics inserted a shunt into his brain, during a long operation, to drain fluid away if it continued to build-up. The operation was a resounding sucess. Following three weeks recovering in hospital, he was sent home. Her son is now in perfect health

Carlene continued her treatment – going on to have a double mastectomy in June 2016, to stop her cancer from spreading. Carlene then had breast reconstruction surgery in February 2017 and was in what she thought was remission.

Unfortunately, this Christmas just gone Carlene discovered another lump. This time in her stomach. Concerned, she sort advice from her GP and had tests done to establish whether the lump was sinister.

Unfortunately, tests revaled the cancer had spread to her stomach. Carlene is now fighting incurable secondary breast cancer at the tender age of 34.

Doctors are now doing all they can for her and trying to make Carlene as comfortable as possible.

Carlene is a brave, strong, couragoeus young women who puts everyone before herself. She is beautiful inside as well as out & i am so very proud to call her my friend.

Carlene has 4 children, an amazing husband aswell as lots of family & close friends by her side. At this very diffucult time in all their lives i am doing something positive to help ease the stress of finacial costs they face.

On June 30th i will be part of “Team Carlene” & taking part in the 5K colour obstale run in Sheffield.

I would be very grateful for any sponsorships to help ease the stress for Carlene & her family through this very difficult and sad time.

    Thank you so much.
