    Story

This is a just giving page for my mum, Hazel.

As you may know my mum has battled all her life with her disability with minimal complaint. During my lifetime my mum has always worked, sometimes working two jobs just to make ends meet. She has worked in schools, helping children with disabilities and children in the pupil support base. She has also worked in youth clubs, children’s care homes and has helped to make the lives of others throughout her life.

Spina bifida and scoliosis of the spine, are conditions that affect the spine and this is why her back is the shape and way that it is. Although her condition has never been a hindrance to her she has always pushed on, has always had her own independence and has never asked for help or relied on anyone as much as she has had to do recently.

Last year my mum had an operation on her ankle and due to complications it hasn’t gone as planned. Due to this complication, it is difficult for her to support her own weight, and walk. Although she has crutches this is not something that is sustainable because of the nerve pain that is associated with her condition and she cannot support her weight through the crutches. She has kindly been given a self-propelled wheelchair, however, due to curvature in her back and the aforementioned nerve pain it is unsuitable and she cannot operate this kind of chair on her own.

Over the next few months she will be getting more operations on her foot and on the base of her spine. These operations will severely impact the amount of mobility my mum has.

My mum will need a tailor made wheelchair to suit her needs and this comes at a cost of £5000 which is why this just giving page was set up. This chair will allow my mum to keep her mobility, allow her to move around the home and perform daily tasks without full time care.

Any donation small or large will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
