Story
Introduction:
Hi there! My name is Phil, and I'm reaching out to you today on behalf of my son, Kit. Kit is an adventurous 6-year-old boy who loves exploring the world around him. Unfortunately, last year Kit was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare life-limiting condition that progressively weakens all of his muscles, including respiratory functions, making mobility a harder challenge daily.
Kit's Story:
Let me tell you about my son, Kit. Kit dreams of independence. He longs to move around on his own and explore the world just like any other child his age. His diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) has made these dreams more difficult to achieve.
Kit is a bright and spirited 6-year-old with an infectious smile and an adventurous spirit. He loves exploring the outdoors, playing with his toys, and spending time with his nans dog Archie.
As Kit's dad, it's heart-wrenching to watch him struggle with simple tasks. Kit's condition not only affects his physical abilities; it also takes a toll on his emotional well-being. He often expresses frustration and sadness at not being able to keep up with his friends or play like he used to.
A powered wheelchair would be a game-changer for Kit, giving him the freedom and independence he so desperately desires.
That's why we're reaching out to you for help.
The Challenge:
Kit's diagnosis has not only presented physical challenges but has also brought forth emotional and financial hurdles for us.
Currently, we are grappling with the impending need to make our home more accessible for Kit's needs. The potential financial strain associated with these necessary modifications is immense, leading us to consider tough decisions to ensure Kit's well-being without compromising our family's financial stability or the well being of our other two children.
Our home lacks level access, and we don't have/can not afford a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. This means that the NHS will not issue us with a powered chair. While well-intentioned, the NHS chairs aren't suitable for Kit's needs. They're not only heavy and near impossible to lift, but they're also not designed for all-terrain use. That's where you come in!
The Solution:
We've found the perfect wheelchair for Kit - the Trekinetic GTE MK3. This all-terrain powered wheelchair is not only functional but also stylish. It's the type of chair that any young boy who relies on a wheelchair would dream of having. With its lightweight design and all-terrain capabilities, the wheelchair will give Kit the freedom to explore and participate in activities like never before.
How You Can Help:
We're launching this fundraiser to raise £12,450, the base model cost of the Trekinetic GTE MK3. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will bring us closer to our goal and help Kit gain the independence he deserves.
Expressing Gratitude:
We are incredibly grateful for your support. To show our appreciation, we'll keep you updated on Kit's progress and adventures.
