Story

LAST WINTER KITTYS OF KEFALOS LOST 14 CATS AND KITTENS TO CAT FLU ☹

COULD YOU GIVE A CHRISTMAS GIFT OF A FLU VACCINE TO A NEEDY CAT OR KITTEN?

Whilst cat flu isn’t normally a serious illness in healthy adult cats, the very young, the very old and those with a damaged immune system or other serious underlying illnesses are particularly susceptible, meaning that the majority of stray Greek cats can fall under the ‘susceptible’ category as they have poor immune systems from constant in-breeding, and from poor nutrition.

Cat flu is also even more difficult to contain in a multi-cat environment, such as Cat Rescues, as feline carriers can spread virus particles for 2 weeks prior to symptoms being evident. And as flu is spread in nasal and eye discharges and saliva, it can quickly become an epidemic. In many cases causing additional complications like pneumonia or, as witnessed far too regularly by us, even devastatingly fatal.

But the positive news is it doesn’t have to be this way! £10 will vaccinate an at risk cat or kitten (2 injections are required) to protect them against this horrid illness and reduce the risk to their life.

Please would you add another gift to your Christmas Shopping List and donate whatever you can towards vaccinating a kitty of Kefalos? We need to raise £850 to cover the cost of vaccinating the entire Rescue as well as to purchase some antibiotics and eye ulcer treatments to be prepared for those that come into us during the coming months that haven’t been so lucky and fall foul to flu. The sooner we can get the vet out to complete the vaccination program the sooner our cats and kittens have a chance to avoid suffering from this miserable illness.
