Story
Last week we noticed Kiwi was a little lame on her right back leg and in pain when we touched her leg. We took her to the vets to get her checked out. After examining her, they found she was reacting when they manipulated her back right hind.
A week later we took Kiwi back for x-rays. A specialist was asked to look at them, they found she has a small fracture in her right hip joint. Kiwi has 3 options - 1) Hip replacement surgery which is around £6-8k with no guarantee, 2) Salvage procedure - which will result in removing the top of the leg bone and have physiotherapy to strengthen the leg muscles etc 3) keep her on pain relief medicines and intervene later down the line. We have decided to go with option 2 as she we no longer be in pain.
Unfortunately, our pet insurance does not cover the full amount of a hip operation and aftercare costs. We've been told an estimate around £3-4k. I'm not one to normally do something like this, but I have to try and raise some money to help Kiwi as I can't see her in pain. Kiwi has just turned 1 year old, this is not what I expected for such a young dog. Any spare change would be gratefully received xx
