Weʼve raised £550 to fund transport and food in New Zealand for two months so I can finish my book about The Eye of the Storm and Tarakin (The Missing Bits).

    Story

Until the age of 33, I lived with severe nut and fruit allergies. I have experienced anaphalactic shock 37 times in my life and I have passed unconcious from it 22, which is an expereince that mimics the final stages of the body shutting down before death.

When I was 28, I held a senior Government post but when I was told I was unlikely to reach 35 because of the allergy, and that I'd never be able to carry a child to full term. I quit the government post set out to build platforms for those people who don't have a voice in society.

Over the next seven years, I set up two social enterprises to bridge the gaps that I saw in the recruitment industry and in public-political engagement. They both worked but the governments at the time wanted to use them to manipluate as opposed to empower people.

I cured my allergies using a variety of alternative therapies in 2012, it took me six years and a lot of hard work.

In 2015 I shut the enterprises down and set about writing them into a book called The Missing Bits. It contains the detail and learnings from the work I have already done and also sets out a few other concepts that have been tested and proven to work.

I now have the possibility of a full life ahead of me. I want to finish the book but on my own terms. I spent two weeks in New Zealand with friends in May and, as well as spending a lot of time laughing, I also managed to write as well. I'm nearly half way through the first draft.

I want to go back and finish it. I find it easier to write from a distance.

I don't need funds for accomodation, I just need help with flights and some money to live on while I'm there. I'm selling the furniture and bits in my flat so if you are local then come and find something you like and then donate via this page. I have lots of kooky things so there will be something for everyone.

Donations are welcome too but please let me thank you via Skype or phone if you are not local.

    Thanks in advance,
    Katrina x

Alcuin - how is retirement treating you? I'm so sorry I didn't make it to your leaving do. Of course you'll get a signed copy when it's done. More than that, I'll be sharing bits as I write and, given that you always contribute your perspective, I can't imagine you not being in the acknowledgments. I'm waiting for Nannon to give me dates when she can prise herself away from Lizzie, Logan and Lopes, so she can come up to London. Mid-August would be best. Might you be able to join us? xx David, Carly - you should join us too?

Too kind, Tony... too kind. I will always treasure the memories of the Christmas we spent together in Forest Hill. Sitting cross-legged by the oven, waiting for the pork to crackle was silly and funny and great. You're an awesome human and a talented film maker. I'm planning to meet Bogi and Nannon in London before I leave. No dates or details confirmed yet. It would be lovely if you could join us. x

The work I did helped lots of people. Even though both enterprises were shut down two years ago, I still get three or four approaches per week asking when I'm coming back. The Missing Bits is the first stage of that and I'd like those who were there at the start to be involved. x
