Story

In January 2020 we performed our play ‘Knots’ at Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells. The performance was a great success and we want to take our show to the Edinburgh Fringe. We have been incredibly lucky to secure a fantastic venue called the Fife Theatre run by theSpaceUK.

The piece is based on a book of poetry by the Scottish psychiatrist R.D Laing. The performance explores the "knots, tangles, fankles, impasses, disjunctions, whirligogs, binds" that can arise in relationships. Laing's poems take Jack and Jill as their focus, but perhaps the patterns that emerge between the characters are strangely familiar to us all. Our production has an exciting and experimental stage design, which informs the physical nature of the piece. The stage is surrounded by four posts, one in each corner, lengths of elastic are stretched between the posts creating an arena for the games, much like a boxing ring. Throughout the play, the characters move these elastics to various positions on stage, and as their games play out they become physically tangled with one another.

Already we are well on our journey towards making this opportunity a reality. We have an extraordinary cast, a talented musician, a rehearsed play, a set, a venue and accommodation. Now we are asking for your support to make a donation to help get us to the Edingburgh Fringe. Whether it’s £5 or £50, every penny will get us closer to delivering the kind of theatre the Edinburgh Fringe is all about. All donations will go towards helping us pay the rent for the venue, marketing and our travel to Edinburgh.

We appreciate your support for this project, and we would be very grateful if you could share this message with friends, family and theatre lovers who might also want to support our vision.
