I’ll be running the Istanbul Marathon on 3rd November and will be raising £4,000 (if not more) for a UK based charity, Helping Hands (Samaritans).

Helping Hands focuses its efforts on communities in Zimbabwe that have been devastated by years of sanctions and have struggled to recover post Covid-19.

The situation is particularly dire for thousands of individuals, including older members of the community and children, who are unable to access regular care and support from the government. The unemployment rate has soared, leaving many vulnerable groups without essential assistance.

Tragically, numerous children are fleeing their homes due to poor living conditions, ending up on the streets of Bulawayo and Harare. These young individuals are forced to fend for themselves in harsh conditions, increasing their susceptibility to various dangers. Unfortunately, the streets become a breeding ground for physical and sexual abuse against these vulnerable children.

Helping Hands ensures that the most affected are supported with:

• Food

• Educational resources

• Clothing

• Community care and therapy

This charity is close to my heart, with my family being from Zimbabwe. Helping Hands was founded by my close personal friends who continue to help at the grass roots level ensuring that funds are used effectively and appropriately. They have strong growth plans and a vision for future support and I'd love to be able to contribute to ensuring they could spread their reach to help those most in need.
