Story
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have certainly found ourselves living in very strange times. Like so many of us, I wanted to help in whatever way I could. I quickly learnt of all the shortages in the NHS and in particular the need for Scrubs to protect our frontline workers in their fight against Covid-19.
I have a business, Collier & Robinson, that makes handmade blazers for clubs all over the world and our workshop is situated in the centre of Henley on Thames. In line with our Government's instruction, our workshop is sitting unused. This didn't sit right with me as it would be so easy for me to produce the scrubs that are so urgently needed. We all need to do our bit!
The Royal Berkshire Hospital, a hospital I have used many times and where our 3 children were born, is desperately short of scrubs for their Covid-19 supply department. Today I have committed to making them 700 pairs of scrubs - this will go some (not all) way in covering the shortfall from their supplier. Myself and my business is giving time, space and machine usage for free, some of the wonderful seamstresses and cutters are also giving their time for free but some do need a very basic amount to cover living expenses. I have sourced an anti-bacterial fabric from one of my fabric suppliers in Yorkshire. This fabric was woven up to make scrubs for the Maltese Hospital.
The most basic cost to make these 700 pairs of scrubs will be £8500 (mainly fabric and tiny amount of labour cost). If we can raise more then myself and my team will continue making the scrubs so please friends, give in whatever way you can. To get the ball rolling, I'm pledging £1000 in charity funds which we have personally received.
Thank you so very much and keep safe.
Much love, Kristie
