In a moment of genius or insanity (I’m not sure which but it’s a fine line) I have signed up to do a 5 day trek through the foothills of the Himalayas for charity. The starting point of my thought process is pretty easy to identify: I turned 40 earlier this year and my divorce came through a couple of months later. I don’t want the divorce to be the defining event of the year I turned 40. It has been five months since I promised to do this. Five months of thinking "I really should start training for this..." This really will be a challenge for me and not just for the 5 days that I'll be trekking - I have to get myself at a reasonable level of fitness and stamina when I am totally, fundamentally and thoroughly uninterested in fitness. It is entirely likely that I will be putting myself through a week of trauma.

But I will damn well do it! I just expect to moan about it too...

The charity I'm supporting is A4U (http://a4u.org.uk/). A4U provides support to empower people with disabilities of all ages, their families and carers. They help people to understand their options, make informed decisions and take action to support independent living. I think they're a great charity that gives really practical support to people that need it.

They've also really helped me out over the last couple of years. They were incredibly supportive of my plans to provide legal support to people that can't afford the usual solicitors fees but aren't able to access Legal Aid. They were so encouraging and I'm not sure I would have set up Picasso Legal if it wasn't for their belief in me. So I owe them.
