Two of my best friends, Simon and Emma recently brought their 2nd child into world with a Critical Heart Condition. Little Emilio had only developed half of his heart which would mean that without major surgery he would not survive life outside of the womb. The only option they had was to uproot their family and await his arrival in London's Specialist hospital. This meant that Simon and Emma had to leave their work, home comforts, pets and hardest of all, their first daughter.
Finally little Emilio was born 26th Sept, where he needed immediate open heart surgery which, he got through defying the doctors with how strong he was. After many procedures and treatments and 4 more weeks in London, Emma and Emilio were transferd to their hometown hospital in Brighton. After a more few difficult weeks, they were discharged home where they managed to spend just one night together as a family and Emma finally got to sleep in her own bed after 72 days. Unfortunately due to further complications, they were rushed back to London where Emma continues to nurse her little boy 24/7 alone with very very little sleep. 1 step forward 10 steps back. She has to ensure that Emilio does not cry as it can increases his heart rate putting his life at risk; and most of you can imagine how hard it is keep a baby from crying.
During this time they have shown utter love and determination. They have managed to do all of this little support from Simons work and their finances have been stretched to breaking point. We think that after everything, that they deserve a christmas to remember for years to come. We can't change what they have to endure but we can let them know that they are thought of and loved.
I know that it's a busy & tight time of year for all, and I wish we thought of doing this sooner but anything that you can give, even just a pound would be so lovely and so appreciated.....
