I've raised £10000 to support the St Mary Mags Hardship Fund and Plast GB Ukrainian Scouts by cycling all the way from London to Paris in around 24 hours

17 riders - 15 dads and 2 mums - are taking on the 309 kilometres between London and Paris to raise vital funds for two important causes. 75% of the funds raised will support two key priorities at St Mary Mags: the Hardship Fund and a dedicated well-being space. 25% of the funds raised will go to the Plast GB Ukrainian Scouts to support camps for displaced Ukrainian children now in London.
A message from Mrs Hughes about what your donation will support at St Mary Mags: After a challenging two years, we are delighted to have our children back in school. After so much uncertainty, we are all aware of the importance of nurturing our children's mental health and well-being. The school is taking part in a number of exciting initiatives including providing an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, participating in the Queen Mary's sensitivity to school study and working towards the Attachment Aware Schools' Award. To help and support this work we want to develop a nurture space within our school. This will be a place classes, small groups, individuals and parents can go to take part in activities and access resources that support their mental health and well-being. This will include an indoor and outdoor space that will be a great resource for our whole community.
As well as impacting mental health and well-being the current economic climate means that more families than ever before need additional support from the school. Our Hardship Fund is used to provide that additional support by providing uniform and educational resources, subsidising trips and workshops, allowing children to participate in extra-curricular activities such as sports' clubs and music lessons, allowing access to our breakfast and after school care club and providing additional basic supplies for families at times of crisis.
How your donation will support Plast GB Ukrainian Scouts: 1st Plast London - Ukrainian Scout Group (a member of the Scout Association in Great Britain), together with the Plast GB Ukrainian Scouts, are organising spring and summer camps for local Scouts with Ukrainian heritage. This year, we are expanding our offer to Ukrainian children who have been forced to flee to London. We are currently offering a four day spring camp and a 14 day summer camp, where Ukrainian children aged 3 to 18 will have the opportunity to explore a variety of scouting activities such as hiking, orienteering, rock climbing, camping and many others.
We aim to create a calm, home-like environment for vulnerable children who have just experienced the impact of a full scale war. Access to a language and activities they recognise will play an important role. We will also have qualified volunteers to help with emotional and well-being challenges, should these arise. In addition, we plan to introduce the children to British culture and organise short historical trips during the summer camp.
