Here's a little bit about who I'm trying to raise money for, and why:

In January 2025 my brother in-law passed suddenly. This obviously devastated my wife and her family, but what I wasn't prepared for was the impact it would have on me.

I knew Garth for more than half of his 36 years of life and saw him mature and grow into a wonderfully kind and caring young man. He often drove me crazy, or made me mad, but he was always there to help when help was needed and could always be relied upon to be there for family events. He was also unashamedly caring without even thinking about it, often doing little things like helping someone with bags, buying someone sleeping rough a coffee, paying things forward and so on. these were things he never considered or even thought about, he just did them because that was him.

At his funeral our family asked for no flowers or donations, but instead asked that everyone gathered honoured Garth's memory by doing an act of kindness when they were able to and the opportunity presented itself. I felt this was a beautiful way to remember him, and also to help replace some of the kindness that missing now that he is gone.

Throughout the year I have done my best to fill some of that void and so have made a conscious effort to do things above what I would normally do. Recently I was honoured with the opportunity to help out a fantastic charity, Ladled with Love, a volunteer funded street kitchen in Hull and so I will be donating around 60 desserts for their Christmas Dinner at Hull Minster as well as spending some time helping out in any way I can on Christmas Day.

I was going to leave it there, being happy to just do my thing and not talk about it, but then I realised that I had an opportunity to try and do even more. By sharing my story and putting it out there and by using my little platform as a small business owner I could reach out to loads of amazing people and ask for their help too.

So if you are able to spare anything at all no matter how big or small please do. All monies will go to Ladled with Love and help feed those in need in Hull. Your small act of kindness will not go unnoticed and who knows maybe many small little acts can turn into something much bigger.
