    Story

On the weekend of 18/19th June, community events will be happening up and down the country, all on the theme of the Great Get Together. The aim is to get everyone together to have a great time and to show that we really do have 'more in common'. Our event will be taking place on Saturday 17th June and we've booked the Scout Hut and the playing field by Giant Axe, here in Lancaster. It's going to be a day of music, food, games and fun! We will have food supplied by Lancaster People's Café and by Marsh Community Centre/City of Sanctuary. We'll get a stage and a PA system so local bands and budding musicians can have a go on stage. And as well as the food and music, we've got korfball sessions organised on the park, Splodge-A-Matic, and fun games like tug-o-war, welly throwing and sack races. There will be fun stalls with games and crafts, face painting, and an area for selling, browsing and bargain hunting. It will be a fabulous fun day for people of all ages to come together. We have plenty of people offering their time and energy but we need a bit of basic funding to make it happen because some things don't come free! We need £170 for event insurance, at least £200 for a PA system, and a bit more for essentials to run games and activities. All communities need special events to help people come together. With fun, music, laughter and great food we will create a day to remember and a day when people strike up new friendships and make our community just a bit stronger. Please give just a little so that we can make this a great day for everyone. For this to work, we have to be big and inclusive. This day must involve everyone, include activities that appeal to everyone, and we have to try to get the message to everyone. Getting a few eye-catching posters out in town would help. So a sincere and huge thank you to everyone who has donated - you have now enabled us to be insured so the event can run! If you haven't yet donated, you'll be helping us to have the PA system so we can have MUSIC, and to put out some lovely leaflets and posters so that we can reach EVERYONE! Thank you. 3/3

We live in such turbulent times and anxiety and frustration can easily turn to suspicion and hatred. We work against that by having simple, human fun - making music, eating good food, enjoying the silliness of sack races and hula hooping, mooching about the stalls for a surprise and a bargain. We remember that this is the real stuff of life, and by getting together like this, we build wellbeing and happiness. 2/3

Wow! Amazing! In just a few days we've reached nearly 60% of our target! Some fantastic BIG donations there that really help to push us towards our target. Thank you so much! But don't feel you need to give big - our standard ask is £2 to show that lots of people can come together to make this happen. The generosity so far shows how much affection there is for our home city, and that people want to pull together to celebrate what we have in common. 1/3
