Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Starting on the 2nd of October, I am cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats - covering a distance of around 1000 miles and hopefully it will only take me 10 days! This is a personal challenge I've wanted to do for a few years since getting into cycling - and I thought I'd try and raise some money for this fantastic cause at the same time!

As you may or may not know my son Hector, aged 10, has severe learning disabilities. His speech is getting better but sometimes he's hard to understand, he is very sensory, he doesn't know his ABC or 123 but he is one of the happiest carefree boys I know. There are 100 babies born with Hector's condition in the UK (IDIC 15 - a chromosome disorder) each year - that's 0.01% of all babies so he's pretty rare. There are 351,000 children in the UK with a learning disability

Hector attends St Lukes School which is part of The Blue Tangerine Federation. It is a SEND (special educational needs and disability) school and is the perfect setting for Hector and many other young people. The Friends of the Blue Tangerine Federation have a clear Vision, Mission, and Ethos:

Our Vision: Our Vision is a world where people with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties thrive.

Our Mission: To enable activities that promote the work of the schools, raise funds and in doing so, work with our communities to break down barriers for children with SEND

Our Ethos: We look after ourselves, each other, our learning and our environment.

Please do take a look at the Federation Website to find out more about the fantastic work they do in promoting the Ability in disability, and preparing young people for their future.

If you can spare a few pennies to support this very worthwhile cause that would be amazing. This will be a tough challenge - 100 miles per day for 10 days - but I'll aim to do everyone proud - especially Hector!

Look out for updates over the course of the ride!

Thank you
