Story

Let's build a safe footbridge at Langbridge for our community, for our children, for our visitors, for future generations…

The beautiful village of Newchurch benefits from many countryside walks and access to the well-used cycle path through Langbridge. Unfortunately, crossing the bridge at Langbridge on foot is currently very dangerous due to vehicle traffic and this discourages people from walking this route, especially with young children.

In 2019, a permissive path was opened to allow pedestrians to walk from the river to the footpath up to the church without going on the road. This path has been named Norah's Way after the late Norah Boswell who gave permission for the path through her land. The footbridge would continue Norah’s legacy and enhance pedestrian access through the village. The proposed bridge will be on the east side of the current bridge, connecting directly to Norah’s Way on one side, and the current lay-by on the other.

The Newchurch Parish Council now have quotes for the building of the footbridge. In order to complete this project, private funds are desperately needed to top up public funds.

Various local businesses have pledged to donate to this project. We hope that the residents of Newchurch and all those who use this route will also donate to this important village improvement.

Any donations via this page will go directly to the Newchurch Parish Council solely for the purpose of this footbridge construction project.
