Story
The Latitude Hotels are located in some of Africa’s poorest cities where access to basic handwashing facilities of soap and water to reduce the Coronavirus transmission is very limited. Latitude are launching a fundraiser to raise much needed resources for their local communities to address the increased hardships that people are facing during this crisis…and they would love your help.
On 2nd May, the Hotel Group will launch, ‘Latitude Gratitude’, a community investment scheme kicking off with their first initiative – a 24hour swimathon fundraiser at Latitude 15° in Lusaka. Whilst the hotels have a history of supporting local initiatives, and have long-standing commitments to a variety of projects, the swimathon will be the first part of a new coordinated approach to raise much needed funds for their local communities. With the approval of the authorities and by adhering to Covid-19 guidelines and strict health and safety protocols the 12-strong team of Latitude staff and supporters, will be able to undertake this challenge maintaining physical distancing and the necessary hygiene considerations before, during and after the challenge.
All of the money raised will support 3 community initiatives in Lusaka, Lilongwe and Kampala. The funds will be used to help manage the pandemic in the local communities; by buying essential goods for distribution through NGO partners, i.e. soap, sanitiser, masks, basic food & hygiene items and also to support in-community health clinics.
We have created a number of different donation packages to give you a sense of the reach of your donation.
Donation packages:
15 USD - You donate a household package (5 washable masks, 3 soaps, 1 hand sanitizer, 25kg of mealie-meal).
30 USD - You donate household food support for 4 families (4 x 25 kg mealie-meal - per household).
65 USD - You donate a 100-litre foot operated aseptic water sanitation station.
100 USD - You donate a PPE package to a local health care clinic (gowns, gloves, face masks).
220 USD - You donate one month of nutritional & educational support for 40 children at the local community centre.
