Story

Most of the people that is going to read this already know me, but just in case I'll introduce myself.

My name is Laura, I'm 29 years old and I am a Children's nuse. After moving from Barcelona to England in 2013, I worked in several hospitals. I started working at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) on 2015 and last January I became part of Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). In this unit we look after children with cardiac and tracheal conditions pre and post op, we perform heat and lung transplants and we also provide ECMO care. It is a highly specilised are with wonderful professionals and an amazing team. We are really luck to have loads of funding from the UK goverment, embassies and charities.

Two months ago I was offered the opportunity to be part of a volunteer team going to Chennai, India, to perform cardiac surgeries to children. I, of course, signed up as soon as I knew there was a vacancy on the team, and to my surprie, they offered me the position. A charity called Healing Little Heats is taking few staff from GOSH (a cardiac surgeon, intensivist, couple of nurses and perfusionist) to Chennai. We are going there for 1 week to perform few cardiac surgeries to children, but also to train staff to be able to provide care for children with cardiac conditions in the future.

Every year thousands of almost 300,000 children are born with heart defects in countries such as India and Africa. A lot of these require corrective heart surgery but sadly only few receive any form of treatment.

The treatment they receive is often sub-standard due to lack of resources and expertise. Often the best care available is only in private hospitals, which is out of reach to the majority who require it the most!

Healing Little Hearts gives these children a chance by briging the care they need to their country. But they rely on donation feom people like you, reading this endless text (sorry). My aim is not to achieve a huge sum of mont but maybe to reach the reasonable amount of 1000£ to be able to fund the flight tickets of 2-3 of the staff that are going to Chennai on September.

You can either donate in this page and then I'll transfer the money to Healing Little Hearts. Or you can directly go to Healing Little Hearts webpage and make a donation there.

If we reach more than 1000£ I would destinate the rest of the money on buying supplies as cuddly toys for the children that will recieve surgery.
