I have decided to leave an excellent teaching job in London to work as a volunteer teacher in the slums of Brazil. I will not only be teaching the children who live in the slums, along with the adults, but I will also be living in the slums. The project is based solely on volunteers offering their services and donations given by the public. I am hoping to raise funds to not only help support my time there, but also to provide resources and experiences for the children to enrich their lives. The children would not have access to any education if the project did not exist and the project enhances their lives in so many ways. I also need help to afford the flights, vaccinations, food when I am there and general living costs as I will not receive any payment. It is completely self-funded and I have paid to join the project for 3 months. I will need to pay a further fee to extend the time to 6 months which is my intention.

I am looking to use my skills as a teacher to help those who are not fortunate enough to have the right to education available to them. I want to help the children in the slums gain an education to help them achieve all that they can with their lives and give them hope at achieving their dreams. No child should be placed under any limitations and all children from all walks of life should be given the same opportunities to educate themselves and better their lives as a result. I would be so grateful for any funds raised to help this wonderful project.

I will also use my experience in Brazil to inform children, whom I have taught in the UK, though Skype sessions and follow up talks. This will enable the children to gain an understanding of the difficulties the children in other countries overcome and how their strength of character shines through. I hope to set up links between schools in the UK and Project Favela to raise awareness and to provide further resources.
