Hi there! First of all thanks for showing interest in my fundraising. This page is to raise funds that will be donated to Healing Little Hearts Kenya to support them to continue going to Kenya to help children with congenital heart disease.

I am a Paediatric nurse from Barcelona that has been working in UK for the last 6 years. I currently work at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This will be my third camp with Healing Little Hearts, and the second one going to Kenya. Last trip in April we dis 85 ECHOS, 10 cathlab operations and 13 open heart surgeries. The team goes to Kenya twice a year to help screen and operate this children as paediatric cardiac surgery is not available in Kenya.

The team is formed by two surgeons, two to three cardiologists, four ITU nurses, two ITU doctors, an anesthesist, a perfusionist

and a scrub nurse. We go to Nairobi for about 10 days. The first two days consists on screening the patients by doing echocardiograms to visualise their heart defects. Families come from all over Kenya to have the scan. After that, the whole team meets and decides which children we can offer surgery in this camp and what day we can operate them depending on their complexity. We operate the most complex cases on the first days to ensure they are stable by the time we finish the camp.

We try to help the maximum number of children possible. The surgeons operate a mean of 2 children a day for 7 days in a row. Also, the ITU doctors and nurses work 24 hour shifts every other day. Moreover, we not only help these children, but also train the staff at the Kenyan hospital for them to be able to take care of these children in the future.

Hola a todos! Primero de todo muchas gracias por demostrar interés para mi recaudación de fondos. El dinero que se recaude en esta pagina sera donado a la ONG Healing Little Hearts Kenya para que puedan continuar yendo a Kenya a ayudar a niños con enfermedades congenitas del corazón.

Soy una enfermera pediatrica de Barcelona que lleva trabajando en el Reino Unido 6 años. Trabajo en el hospital Great Ormond Street en la Unidad de Curas Intensivas de Cardiacas. Esta sera la tercera vez que voy de voluntariado con Healing Little Hearts y la segunda que voy a Kenya. En Abril 2019 fue la ultima vez que fuimos e hicimos 85 ecocardiogramas, 10 cateteres cardiacos y 13 operaciones a corazón abierto. Este equipo va a Kenya dos veces al año a diagnosticar y operar a niños ya que allí no existe esta especialidad.

El equipo esta formado por dos cirujanos, dos o tres cardiólogos, cuatro enfermeras de UCI, dos doctores de UCI, un anestesista, un perfusionista (para el bypass), y una enfermera de quirófano. Estamos en Kenya durante 10 días. Los dos primeros días hacemos ECHOS a todos los pacientes para asesorar el defecto cardiaco que tienen. Las familias vienen de toda Kenya hasta Nairobi para esta consulta. Después todo el equipo se reune para decidir que niños necesitan ser operados en este voluntariado y cuales pueden esperar hasta el siguiente, y también decidir a cuales vamos a operar primero dependiendo de su complejidad. Operamos primero a los mas complejos para asegurarnos de que se encuentren estables antes de acabar el voluntariado.

Intentamos ayudar al maximo de pacientes posible. Los cirujanos operan a una media de dos ñinos por día durante 7 días seguidos. Las enfermeras y médicos de UCI hacemos turnos de 24 horas. Además, no solo ayudamos a estos niños, sino que también educamos a al personal sanitario en el hospital de Nairobi para que en un futuro puedan atender a estos niños por si solos.
