Story

Hey ovo!

To everyone who works in the field, you all know that we meet so many different types of customers from all different walks of life on a daily basis. Some of which pretty much offer you a sit down lunch as soon as you arrive, to those, who ask can you fit through that tiny gap please? However, sometimes there are those few customers whose lives always leave a lasting impression on you. Last Wednesday I met some inspirational people who did just that.

After completing an installation for my cheerful customer. I got chatting to both him and his neighbour Mr. Smith who also turned out to be an Ovo customer.

He asked whether it would be possible to have a smart meter fitted as their son Maxwell, was on life support machines. So I agreed to go over, have a look at their installation and to meet them all to see if it would be possible.

What I found when I met them was I was overwhelmed of how amazingly positive this family were and how much they do to support their 6 year old son Maxwell which was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease when he was 1. This is their story:

“Maxwell is a little boy and is connected to a life support machine, which ventilates him 24 hours a day because he struggles to breathe by himself. He currently lives on the ground floor of the family home, where there is enough space for the elaborate network of wires and machines that he needs to survive.”

“He can't talk, walk or move his arms and legs this means he requires around the clock care by his parents and nursing team. There is a treatment available for Maxwell which unfortunately isn't funded. The treatment costs £26000 per year”

Being incredibly touched by these people, I wanted to share their story and I want to go the extra mile to help them. I'm going to do a fundraising event through field force to raise money for the little Maxwell foundation.
