Story

Zachary, is a local boy from Oswaldtwistle. He is 13 years old and has a complex medical history. He was born with severe congenital CMV and lives with cerebral palsy affecting all four limbs, developmental delay, blindness, deafness, and relies on PEG feeding. He has also undergone hip surgery and has an advance care plan (EOL). Despite all of these challenges, Zachary continues to defy expectations, and we are incredibly grateful to still have him with us.

Zachary relies completely on his wheelchair for mobility, comfort, safety, and participation in daily life. He has now outgrown his current wheelchair, which is causing increasing discomfort and limiting his ability to take part in activities he enjoys. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, he has not been provided with a new wheelchair that meets his current needs.

Zachary loves going on walks in his wheelchair and enjoys days out with his carers and nurses. family On many days, because of pain that is managed with medication, going for a walk is one of the only activities he is able to enjoy. Having a suitable wheelchair is essential for his pain management, safe positioning, and overall wellbeing. Without an appropriate chair, there is a real risk of him becoming housebound. This would have a significant impact on both his physical and emotional health, especially as he still attends school , where he benefits from routine, learning, and social engagement.

A properly fitting wheelchair is not just equipment for Zachary—it is a lifeline. It allows him to be included in family life, school, and the community, while keeping him safe, supported, and as comfortable as possible.

We are urgently seeking support so that Zachary can receive a wheelchair that truly meets his medical, physical, and daily living needs. Our goal is to ensure he can continue to experience the world around him, remain active in our community, and maintain the best possible quality of life.
