This year I will be taking part in an expedition to South Africa for 3 weeks and hope to make friends and change some lives. Please support me in my journey, the money I have to raise is not only for myself but resources for the projects we will be undertaking whilst out there. Thanks.
In July, Scouters from Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and Newcastle under Lyme will be travelling to Southern Africa for a 25 day expedition. Whilst in Southern Africa, the Scouts will be undertaking projects specifically designed to improve the quality of life for young people and Scouts, in the communities in which they will be based. These projects will include challenges such as improving a community dwelling for the elderly; providing agricultural and livestock opportunities for local people; making improvements to play equipment at local children’s shelter’s; business development; sustainable gardening and entertaining orphans.
As you can imagine, funding such an expedition is a challenge in itself. Each Scout has to fundraise, not only for the cost of the expedition but also for the essential materials required to undertake the projects outlined above.
The Purpose of Scouting is to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. This expedition will provide the participating Explorer and Network Scouts with the opportunity to learn first-hand, how those in less fortunate parts of the world live and manage in extreme poverty, whilst personally developing during a life changing experience.
