Story
Can you imagine the stress of moving 46 dogs, their kennels, a dog kitchen, volunteers kitchen and all the necessary bedding and storage needs of a dog rescue?
Now imagine having to do it in 30 days. Now imagine you have nowhere to move to with 46 helpless souls relying on you for their very future, safety and security.
Where would you start?
Running a rescue on day to day basis is relentless and hardwork at the best of times. Ensuring you have the finances for routine vet bills and medicines, finding emergency funding for an unexpected vet bill or animal coming in that needs help, paying the electric, water and heating bills, It all adds up and in our case to an average of £15.000 per month.
Against all odds we found a new home to lease on an incredible site in Tamworth. But moving onto the site was not that simple.
Aside from all the packing up of dog bowls, bedding and other necessary items that comes with rescue, the new site had to be adapted to meet our needs. We had to convert stables which meant power washing and cleaning thoroughly, repainting the walls and then concreting broken floors before laying the floor coverings. Once that was all done we had to purchase 110 kennel divider panels at a cost of £220 each
Everyone knows moving is expensive, but you can never fully appreciate the costs of moving a dog rescue until you do it.
It is fair to say we have been incredibly unlucky over the past 2 years and had to move 3 times. The Max & George Trust is a non-profit dog rescue and we get no government help. We also do not have the resources of longer established charities like Birmingham Dogs Home, Dogs Trust or RSPCA.
The hard truth of the matter is that we simply do not have the finances or resources to fall back on in times of emergencies. We are of course desperately wanting a site that we own and one day I am quite sure we will.
Most people will have been following our journey on Facebook and will know that we are now settling in to the new site. The dogs are doing well and we are slowly unpacking and getting organised.
But, we are in crisis and sadly still haven't covered the costs of moving. This means we cannot take on anymore dogs needing our help and especially cannot help dogs like Phoebe, a gorgeous poodle cross spaniel that is in pain with her knees. She needs surgery but we cannot help her until we can find the funds to cover the move.
We are really hoping the community will pull together for us once more in helping by donating whatever you can.or keep spreading our story.
With dog rescues all in crisis and with some even shutting their doors it is vital we keep going.
Please help us and please share.
Thank you
