    Story

I want to become a leading force to create positive social change using the therapeutic tools of theatre to inspire and make a fundamental difference to individual lives especially children. I believe that theatre has the potential to change lives and should be accessible for everyone regardless of background. It can help to tackle sensitive issues in the third person or talk about situations which maybe too difficult to discuss directly. I’m incredibly grateful that I have been able to use theatre to overcome obstacles in my own life and I want to share this tool with others. Throughout my work I want to create a safe, comfortable environment, one, which is inclusive and open to everyone to practically engage with, creating new relevant approaches for change. This is one that is not an escape from reality but which is a journey enabling transformation to discover the true self. I believe that no one need suffer alone or be held back by circumstances they have been born into or are currently facing. I believe that each person has an inner potential and through support in taking personal responsibility regardless of circumstances has the ability to change past experiences. I want to be this support and positive influence to whomever I encounter. I strongly feel that this needs to be delivered in a fun manner, the use of laughter and enjoyment are an important part of any work I do in this field. This type of work is deeply fulfilling for me on a personal level. I am keen to introduce the arts to people who have little or no engagement with it. Dramatherapy enables me to combine my two passions. I have been offered a place to train to be a dramatherapist at Derby University and unfortunately the fees are quite high (10,600 for the two year course) and I am not eligible for any funding programmes. I would be extremely grateful for any help you can offer no matter how small to support me on my journey.

Remembering all the fun we had in Mamre. Here we are providing at the local school providing a solution to the lack of activities available for the local children in the area. After school finishes at 12pm there were no positive activities for the local children and young people to do. So to reduce anti social behaviour we provided performing art and sport workshops everyday. Miss those lovely children.

I’m incredibly grateful that I have been able to use theatre and drama to overcome obstacles in my own life and I want to share this tool with others. My experience of suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is linked to why I want to train as a dramatherapist. My story was published in this latest book by Nicole Schnackenberg. I developed & led drama workshops at a day centre for adults with learning disabilities & complex needs to build skills in communication & teamwork. The sessions involved engaging the group in various drama exercises adapted to suit the various needs, ending with several public performances. The benefits were visible, one individual who usually was disengaged with most activities, became one of the leading roles laughing, dancing and singing. This has been one of my most enjoyable & rewarding roles where I used my skills to create value.
