Story

In January 2013 I travelled to Uganda where I volunteered in a local school called 'Mugaluka' for weeks I saw a little girl wandering around on her own in a little white dress. After becoming concerned about why she was on her own and asking teachers about her, I discovered at the age of 6 months she sadly lost her hearing due to malaria. With this being such a rare condition the local community especially the children treated her as an outsider, leaving her to learn and also play on her own.

After simply just sitting and spending time with Angela colouring in or playing games I discovered this young girl had a bright future. Her smile expanded every day as I simply gave her a sweet or encouraged her to join in with the games. After meeting her family and seeing how grateful they were at my suggestion of helping Angela and her education, I knew I simply couldn't leave without making a change.

4 years later and I can see how this small donation is helping Angela, every month I get feed back of her progression and her improvement over this time is incredible! Hopefully, In the next year or so I will be able to fly out and have a conversation with her, both using sign.

For every £75 that I raise Angela gets to attend one term in a special needs school for the deaf in the capital, Kampala. She has been there for four years now and has made a number of friends and been taught how to communicate through sign language. Her whole quality of life has been able to change by what we see as just a small amount of money and I can't wait to see her continual progression over the next 3 years!
