Story

I've been nervous to make this page as I usually hate asking for help but I'm not sure what else to do, and friends have advised me to make a justgiving page to reach out.

Hi, I'm Lauren, I'm a disabled 27 year old self-employed illustrator in the UK, however have been out of work for a while due to multiple ongoing medical issues and accidents.

I've been having ongoing issues with a brain condition (IIH) since November (when an optometrist discovered the papilledema of my optics nerves), after an abnormal MRI scan - consultants with neurologists - and being admitted over the Christmas holidays, during which I had multiple lumbar punctures to drain cerebral fluid in December to bring the pressure down, which looks like I'll possibly be having a brain shunt if the pressure around my brain keeps coming back, I have been exhausted and mentally and physically drained. I am struggling to keep myself afloat.

Last month I found out my heart is having issues, awaiting a referral to a cardiologist specialist, which most likely will have to go through private to get answers quickly and treatment ASAP. Then just a little over a week ago, I had an accident that involved me losing consciousness randomly, hitting the back of my neck and skull against a radiator at my friend's house while I was home alone, and having a seizure for the first time. I am thankful for the paramedics who kept me company while I lay on a spinal board in the ambulance for 4 hours while we waited to see a doctor in Majors. My doctors believe the TLOC episode was neurologically caused, rather than cardiovascular, so a referral to the First Fit Clinic has been made.

I have also recently found out I will be becoming homeless this summer, it has been a stressful time trying my best to recover and deal with all of this as most of this is still in the dark awaiting answers, scared and worried I will most likely have to seek out private care to get treatment ASAP or at least be listened to. While also desperately trying to contact resources such as the local council, independent living support services, landlords who accept DSS etc While also keeping on top of my many doctors and hospital appointments that are coming up..

I'm not the one to ask for help as I have been trying my best with saving what little change I have, but its getting difficult, and I don't really know what else to do. If anyone has anything spare, please consider donating. The money will be going towards medical costs as its looking like its inevitable I will have to go through private medical services to get answers and treatment ASAP. And costs towards transport to and from doctors and hospitals while I am trying to recover, as well as a small fund to help me find somewhere secure and safe before I become homeless this summer. Sharing will also be a huge help if you cannot spare anything, thank you, so much.

my friend will be able to help manage this page if i become too unwell to do it myself

Another update! I had my appointment with a seizure nurse specialist yesterday morning. At a new hospital I have never been to before so it was very daunting. I'm getting booked in for an EEG (electroencephalogram) to measure brain activity anytime between now and 3 weeks time. As well as a detailed MRI between now and 3 months time (my previous MRI's have been focused on optic nerves and sinus veins so they need to redo one to look at every layer of the brain. Hoping after these tests there will be more answers!!

Hi all, another update as its been rather sudden. I'm back in hospital again, have been here since the 12th, not sure when I'm out. My heart is not doing so great, have been doing ecgs every few hours. Just have been trying to get as much rest as possible and hopefully will get answers soon about my heart as soon as they're available. Thank you so much for the continued support, a friend of mine will be helping managing this page as I'm a bit poorly. Sharing of the justgiving link yo your socials would mean so much, thank you!!

Thank you so, so SO much for everything so far!! I managed to get an appointment with a seizure nurse specialist that's on the 22nd April, and still awaiting the cardiology referral. I had to go back to get more OCT scans of my optic nerves as new symptoms after the accident has been causing vision issues along with intense migraines, so everything has been forwarded to a neurologist who is hopefully contacting me soon. I wanted to sat that I also reopened my etsy shop, I ship worldwide with free UK shipping! etsy.com/uk/shop/Birbdog
