Story

Kingfisher has done alot and will continue to do alot for my family. My son has a lot of long term problems and they have supported us through it all.
His story the quick version-. He was born as a twin at 27wks. At 4days old he had a bowel op. At 5wks after being resuscitated everyday he had a heart op. At 7wks he had his second bowel op. He has ROP and we were told he wouldn't see anything but were later told that's not the case and he does have sight. He has reflux and an unsafe swallow meaning anything that goes into his mouth floods his lungs instead of filling his stomach. His liver started to fail due to the amount of TPN fluid he was receiving as a result of not being able to digest milk. We later found out he has an intolerance to cows milk. He has been ventalated most of his life and will continue to always need breathing support at night and during naps. Because he was ventalated so much he became addicted to the drugs that were keeping him asleep. So once he was well enough he started the long and slow process to ween off of them. He has chronic lunge and a recurring collapsing lung. To top it off he has movement difficulties and very obviously isn't developing as he should which is why sensory equipment is so important. We knew brain damage was a strong possibility but its now becoming a reality. He has spent the last 7 and 1/2 months in kingfisher with no signs of coming out and another 2 ops due to take place in the the next few wks. So that's the main milestones in his story so far. Which is why I feel its time I try to do something to give back as they are always struggling for funds and they help so many people.
