Story

Hello,

As many of you are aware, our son Cameron spent 2 weeks in the care of the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in St John’s Hospital in August 2017. He had contracted sepsis throughout the labour and needed urgent attention. He was in an incubator and then on and off an antibiotic drip for 2 weeks. Not only did he get the medical care he needed, we got the much needed support, guidance and advice from all the nursing staff to help us through these two weeks. We also stayed over in their family room for 2 nights and were able to use their kitchen, bathroom and lounge facilities.

Having spoken to many people about SCBU, we have learned that we know at least another 5 families who have benefitted from this care and attention.

We have contacted SCBU, and the moneys raised will go towards everything apart from medical equipment; anything that can make the families’ stay that bit better, hats, blankets, mitts, cardigans etc for the little babas, bed linen for the babies to sleep on, to be able to buy christmas presents, memory books to record their time in the SCBU, and much more.

We (ourselves and you) donated a large amount of items at christmas time, however the hard work of the nursing staff in SCBU continues. This time we are going to walk 14 miles in August, from Linlithgow to Ratho (one mile for every day he was in SCBU) as a celebration of Cameron’s first birthday.

Please make a donation no matter how big or small. Thank you from all the families past, present and in the future who will need to use SCBU.

Love Lauren, Gary and Cameron xx
