Story

Quotes from changing-places.org … “Sometimes you just need to change one thing to open up a world of possibility.” And .. “Over a 1/4 million people need Changing Place toilets to get out and about and enjoy the day-to-day activities many of us take for granted.” The organisation has recently registered its 1000th 'changed place' … it is now looking for no. 1018.

It can be very difficult (maybe dangerous ?) to get a severely-disabled child out of a wheel-chair and on to the hard, cold floor of an ill-equipped toilet .. and back into the chair again .. and what of the lack of all dignity for the child in question?

Walnut Tree Farm Park welcomes school visits, some groups with disabled children who have to be rushed back to school for their needs to be properly met. The Park needs a hoist so that toiletting of these children can be carried out efficiently, safely and quickly, so that the child in question (and the rest of the group?) can enjoy a longer and more complete experience. The Park has already begun to raise money for the equipment they need .. but they need £1100 more.

A friend of the Farm has taken up the challenge to help raise this money.

Can an 85-year-old man walk 4 marathons (up and down the Taff Trail, Cardiff to Brecon to Cardiff), in 2 days ?

"I will attempt to walk the two legs of the Taff Trail ... starting and finishing at the Celtic Ring in the Bay. (Has the double trip ever been attempted before by anyone?) ... 1) hoping to complete the 106 mile walk, and 2) do it within my own personal target of 2 days?

I will be unaccompanied and unsupported, relying on pubs, and cafes along the Trail. I will carry a phone to send messages back to Rachel at the Farm on my progress, which will be reported on the Farm's Facebook page. If you would like to support this effort on behalf of disabled children, please donate!
