Story
UPDATE: Thank you all SO SO much for your generosity and kindness of you all. Many of you we know, some we do not but cannot thank you all enough to helping us have one less worry whilst we are away. Laurence's treatment has been confirmed for America, Jacksonville, and as such the unexpected costs are higher than we had originally anticipated. We therefore have raised the target to help with this, such as the additional longer flights, longer time away from the UK and being mid summer.
Since July 2017 our son, Laurence, (now six) has been having headaches amongst other health issues. An MRI scan in April this year confirmed every parents worst nightmare. He was diagnosed with a very rare condition called a Craniopharyngioma, a benign brain tumour. He has now had surgery to drain a cyst within the tumour, however the tumour is attached to a part of his brain (his hypothalamus) which makes it too risky to remove. The tumour has already stopped him growing and he will need daily injections until he is at least 18. The best way to stop the tumour growing is with Proton Beam Therapy, but these machines are not yet available in the UK. Our only option is to travel overseas to undergo treatment which will take approximately 8-12 weeks.
People have been wonderful and offered us so much support. We are a proud family and always have been independent and battled through. We do however, recognise that we cannot do this alone. We are struggling, this is the hardest thing we have ever been through. It’s a very long journey we are facing and we are praying our little Hero will continue to battle through. Currently, Laurence is undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital but as you can imagine the unexpected costs are already mounting up - travelling to London, unable to work our normal jobs, hotels, food on the go etc.
All money raised will be used by our family on travel, accommodation and living expenses whilst overseas and travel to London. Laurence’s treatment is being funded by the NHS but we need to pay for his sister’s flights and accommodation and we have 2/3 months of living expenses in a strange country to fund. We also still have all the usual bills back at home.
Despite all that Laurence has faced so far, he continues to smile and that smile and support from you all is what keeps us going.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, it means a lot to us all.
Any money left after this journey we will donate to help others in a similar situation.
