Story
Laurie was diagnosed with a second brain tumour in May 2017. Surgeons operated to remove it in June 2017 but, sadly, the operation did not go to plan and Laurie was left effectively paralysed from the neck down.
In February this year, we were told that the consultants do not expect Laurie to make any further progress. Obviously, this devastating news has left us all shell shocked but we are determined for Laurie to have the best quality of life possible, and that means we need to get her home.
We need to raise funds to build Laurie a ground floor wet room. We also need to widen the door openings and purchase a standing hoist (this hoist alone will cost around £10,000).
You're probably wondering why we don't apply for an NHS grant to fund this work, as Laurie would undoubtedly qualify. However, it can take up to 3 years for these grants even to be given the go ahead, and being in hospital is having a severe, negative impact on her mental well being. We would like to raise the money ourselves, then we intend to do our own DIY SOS and get her home as soon as possible.
