A NEW DAWN FOR LAW AND ORDER - Norman Brennan
For the past 27 years, I have been one of Britain's leading campaigners on police protection, victim care and public safety. I served 31 years in the police service and saw the devastation that crime causes close at hand. Now, I regularly advise the national media on gun and knife crime. I have met more than a thousand families who have lost loved ones by homicide.
Over the past few years, we have seen knife crime and homicides reach the highest levels in recent times; children are killing children, and too many parents are planning funerals rather than futures.
Too often we see parents on the television speaking through their grief, hoping their child's death will be the last, hoping these senseless murders will stop. And then we see the same words repeated by another set of parents just a few weeks later. We have become anaesthetised to these scenes. But for the families who have lost their loved ones, time stops and life changes forever.
This endless chain of violence must be broken.
To this end, we have established a charity, the Law and Order Foundation, specifically aimed at tackling these issues.
I have put together a team of some of Britain's most highly decorated, retired police leaders, who are all experts in homicide investigations, to ensure that victims of crime are given the best possible care and support. We also aim to work with communities to give a new purpose and direction to our youth.
We plan to establish a National Resource Centre, which will ensure victims receive the best possible support and care. We will work with communities and engage with youth mentors.
In the longer term, we want to provide seven respite locations throughout Britain where families affected by homicide and major crime can go to be cared for, supported by, and receive advice from appropriate professionals.
There are many people doing different things to address the issues I highlight, but they are so fragmented that it's a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. We will work with anyone and everyone to achieve our aims, and it will benefit all of us.
We have the vision, we have the plan and we have the expertise.
But we cannot do it without your support. If you believe in our mission, please donate whatever you can.
This first step will give us the foundations on which to build a better and safer future for us all.
Thank You.
