Story

Recently Laz and mouse have both needed extensive medical care at the same time (they always like to do things together!). Luckily most of this has been covered by insurance but we have had a large amount to pay on top and in excesses plus they will both need ongoing treatment. We have now reached our limit with insurance cover which is why i'm asking for help '

Laz's story

Months ago we started to notice Laz had started stumbling so took him to the vet who suggested clipping the fur from between the pads on his feet. Unfortunately the stumbling got progressively worse (falling down, unable to walk up or down stairs, unable to navigate terrain that isn't flat) so finally he was sent to stay with a specialist. While at the specialists he had a variety of tests including a spinal tap, brain scan and x-ray. Nothing showed up on any of these tests and the cause of his problems is still unknown. It is thought that he has an auto immune muscle wasting disease the is effecting his front shoulders and the nerves running down his legs. He was tried on steroids which had little to no effect so the next step is to either watch his progress or try other medications. Although we are very glad all his tests have come back negative for serious problems like a brain tumor or spinal injuries we still do not know what is wrong with him.

Mouses story

Mouse came to us from a friend and had been rescued from travelers by a lady who was concerned they may kill him. Not much is known about what mouse has been through but we think he was used as a bait dog (a bait dog is used to train other dogs to fight by having something they can attack). Mouses's body is covered in scars (even his eyelids) and he has suffered unknown trauma.

One day mouses tail had what looked like an ulcer with large swelling. He was taken to the vets and put on antibiotics but the swelling never went down. It was decided he should have an x-ray to see what was going on with the bones. During put under with anesthetic his heart beat dropped dangerously low and he had to be woken up. We knew he had a heart murmur but we didn't know how extensive the damage was so he was sent for a heart scan. This reveled that he has a hole in his heart caused by hear disease. Luckily this can now be monitored with medication but its very expensive (£60 for a months worth) and he has to be on it for the rest of his life. With the heart under control he was ale to have his tail x-ray which revealed that the bone had swollen and cracked. We still don't know what had caused this but it is thought that he must have suffered trauma to it in the past that then became aggravated. The tail had to be removed and sent of to be tested where it was luckily found to not be malignant.

I am asking if anyone can afford it and would be so generous to please consider donating to this cause. Both Laz and Mouse are the most wonderful dogs in the world and they make my time on earth so complete. I couldn't imagine not coming home to their happy faces each day, they really light my life. They are both such happy special dogs that get huge enjoyment out of living.

I hate to ask without giving back so any donation of £20 or over will receive a beautiful A4 print of this illustration of me drawn by the immensely talented Ruby Wolfe (along with a hand written thank you note)-

Please email me your address to ame.solitaire@hotmail.com and i will have it sent to you <3

Thank you so much
