I am participating in voluntary work overseas in Borneo, in conjunction with Bodmin College next year. I wish to make a difference by helping the less fortunate community and environment.
I need to fundraise just over £4000 to enable the funding of this expedition. The challenges will include building infrastructure, educating children and planting trees to replace the massive amount of deforestation of the rainforest and much more. I have many ideas for fundraising and I'm excited to experience all the new challenges I may face.

From a personal perspective, I hope the expedition will enable me to develop and gain an understanding of the diversity of another culture within the world. It will help me to appreciate the daily challenges they face in comparison to my own lifestyle and opportunities in the UK, such as free education, availability of computers and the simple things that we take for granted, such as fresh water and food. This amazing opportunity will help me develop life skills, including confidence, communicating efficiently, working independently and within a team, as well as developing leadership and decision making skills.

I'm looking forward to the satisfaction I know I shall achieve by contributing to a less fortunate and threatened community, as well as the environment. Seeing the gratitude on the faces of the children in the community that I will be helping will be my greatest accomplishment.

I plan to keep a journal of my adventures and achievements including drawings, as well as photography. This will enable me to record and remember my expededion, but more importantly to share this on return with other students at Bodmin College. This might hopefully inspire many others to embark on projects to help others.
