Story

Anyone that knows me and my mum, knows just how close we are. She is my bestfriend, my rock, she is the jelly to my peanut butter. So, when my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer on january 6th 2022, i saw tunnel vision, and for a moment, i felt like my entire world fell apart. My mum is strong, loyal, fiercely independent, selfless and caring, so it really didnt shock me that her first words after finding out she had breast cancer was 'how am i going to tell my family? i dont want to upset them, how will they cope?' before she even thought about how she felt about the diagnosis.

We can all sit here and probably write pages about why our parents are our everything, but my mum is all ive ever had when it comes to parental guidance. She has been there for me through every single dark and difficult time i have endured, but has also been there at every success and triumph. not only do i want to be able to help her during her dark and difficult times, but i hope to be stood there celebrating with her at the end of all of this. She is the most selfless person i know, an amazing mother, an incredible nan to my two daughters who she would give the world to if i she could, a loyal and trusting friend, and kind and caring daughter and truly, one in a million. She doesn't ask nor expect anything from anyone and never has, thats why im going to give it everything ive got to try and help her out this time, its always mum helping others but i cant even count on one hand the amount of times shes asked for any help in return, and although she hasn't asked me to do this, i feel its the least i can do.

on 13th december 2021, my mum had to attend a health check, by december 21st, she was being seen by specialists, having multiple tests, x-rays, biopsies, ultrasounds, you name it. we knew what they were looking for and honestly i truly believed they had just found a hormonal lump or something silly and not worth worrying about. i felt numb to the core when come january 6th, my mum was diagnosed with invasive Lobular breast cancer.

my mum, naturally has been hit by every single emotion, as you can imagine, and as her only child, i feel virtually helpless. i feel like no matter what i say or do, i cant take any of this away from her and it cripples me inside more than words can explain. Having never met my biological father, not having a step father or even anything remotely close, i would be devastated beyond words and truly have no idea how i would cope should anything ever happen to my mum. That being said, i know and believe that she is a fighter and i know how strong she is, after all, my mum has managed to get me out of hell myself a few times.

ive decided to start this fundraiser because i really do feel its the one thing i may be capable of doing to help ease her troubles. The goal amount needed at the moment is for help whilst she is recovering from her surgery, which is expected to be a couple of months, however this can change to be many months depending on her pathology results which will tell us whether or not it has spread, therefore my goal amount could change depending on this.

My mum is in full time work, however, march 23rd is her operation date to have her mastectomy and she will be off of work for quite some time to recover. originally, her surgery was set to be valentines day, but unfortunately my mum caught covid just before which meant her surgery was then delayed by up to 7 weeks. My biggest concern is my mum managing to pay her bills and cover all of her finances even whilst off work. So as her daughter, i just really want to help her out, there is nothing worse than worrying about finances, especially when you have stressors 10x greater.

my mum is never someone to ask anyone for anything, especially money. from the age of 14 she has been fiercely independent, she has done everything for herself without help from anyone. she has always worked extremely hard in any and every job she has been in - every manager or boss that she has had im past jobs has always praised her on her work ethic to me personally, its undeniable that she is everything i aspire to be. she isnt one to reach out for help, not physically, not mentally and most certainly not financially, but i know right now that the one thing i can do is potentially take the pressure off of her somehow in an area of her life that i know she is very concerned about. So as much as im not the type to ask for help either, this time i am.

between me and some family members we are able to help her with some of her finances, but due to me only having a part time job and my nan having retired, there really is only so much we can help with, which leaves my mum worrying more about her finances than her actual recovery from breast cancer and a mastectomy.

As a woman, hearing that you have breast cancer when you have otherwise been healthy for years, is enough to bring anyone to their knees, no matter how strong you are, add a mastectomy on top of that and the possibility of chemotherapy and radiotherapy (possible hair loss) her confidence wont be far behind. i want to use the one thing that i have built myself, social media, to raise enough money that my mum can relax knowing her financial needs are covered and she can focus purely on recovering, healing and processing how her life has and will change following her surgery. As stated above, my mums initial reaction to her diagnosis was not how she felt, but how she worried how others she cared for would feel. She is the most selfless person i know and if the tables were turned, i know my mum would be doing exactly this to help me in any way i can.

in a world where money is the be all and end all for everything, i want to take that one worry away. i cant remove her cancer, i cant take away her pain, but i can sit here and type out every reason why i would personally like to ask for the help of others, to if you can, please help my mum. i want nothing more than for her financial worries to be dealt with so she can focus on the most important thing, rather than worry about how she will stay afloat, pay her bills, keep her house, etc.

im looking to raise enough money to cover all of her outgoings and finances so she doesnt have to worry about her bills or anything financially related whilst she is recovering from not only her mastectomy but also cancer. After her surgery, we will find out whether or not the cancer cells have spread to her lymph nodes and if so, radiotherapy and chemotherapy will be the next course of treatment. Any spare money that i raise will go towards her getting a wig that will aid in making her feel more herself if she has to have chemotherapy and loses her hair, however if my mum gets the all clear and her cancer hasnt spread, any money leftover will be given to either a charity or other breast cancer patients in need of support.

im going to keep everyone as updated as possible, and will be recording a youtube video to attach to this fundraiser so that i can share more information in depth with everyone who is interested. from the bottom of my heart, i appreciate anyone and everyone that is able to help during this extremely and undeniably difficult time, if we can take one big burden off of her shoulders whilst she is going through this, it would mean everything to me and i know it would mean everything to her.
