I've raised £3250 to help raise awareness of the problems caused by the Lee Green LTN and to encourage as many people as possible to respond to the consultation.

Story

Lewisham Council has started a consultation on the Lee Green LTN, which closes on 8th August 2021. The council are distributing a pamphlet to 28,000 homes to encourage people to respond to the consultation survey . It is great news that they will be listening to people from such a wide area, and we have been asked to help raise awareness, as have other local groups. We need to reach the people who are impacted who might not get the pamphlet.

We also feel that some of the key facts - which only are available online if you have the patience to read a highly technical traffic report - need to be highlighted, such as this graph showing the increased pollution on the South Circular.

We also know other groups are putting their own spin on the data to claim it‘s all a great success, ignoring the views and real life experiences of those who live on or use the impacted roads. People need the facts!

The funds will be used to print and distribute about 25,000 leaflets, containing key facts and information about the consultation, with a QR code and web link to a call to action. If we raise more than we need, the remainder will be donated to a local good cause, chosen by a poll on our Facebook group.

As well as the funds, we'll need help getting from supporters to get the info into the hands of people who are negatively impacted and eligible to complete the council’s survey, but who may not live in the area getting the maildrop - eg local bus users, carers, visitors, health & social care staff, business owners, tradespeople, and those who work or learn here.

It should be illegal making a road with illegal air pollution worse, hence the nation’s poor health outcomes. Doctors have confirmed majority of respiratory patients live on/near busy roads and they matter too. Your life must never be fair game just because of where you live. All children and young people matter.

- Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, Clean Air for All and Asthma Advocate, and mother of Ella who lived near the South Circular and tragically died aged nine following an asthma attack in 2013. An inquest found air pollution "made a material contribution" to her death.
