Burton Live News Report

ITV News Report

On the 28th of October 2022 our head groundsman Ray, arrived at our beloved Burton Cricket Club to work on our ground as he does on a daily basis however only this time, he wasn't expecting to find what he did.

Our club had been not only broken into but vandalised beyond recognition. We have had minor break-ins in the past and we thought that we had made the club impenetrable, which the burglars must have also believed as it looks like they couldn't get in through the usual means at first, so they decided to remove a section of the front wall to force entry.

What was then to come was nothing that we could of expected in our wildest nightmares, not only did they break in and steal various items but they completely destroyed everything in the pavilion including the ladies and gents toilets the kitchen a strong room where we kept our safes, our hot water tank was ripped from the wall and consequently flooded part of the pavilion pictures of teams over the years were smashed and spray painted profanities were spray painted over the walls tins of paint thrown and smashed on the floor, the extent of the vandalism is horrific.

The cost to repair the damage is unfortunately going to run into tens of thousands, realistically we don't know yet how much It will all cost until the full extent of the damage has been assessed but one thing we have seen and appreciate is the overwhelming support shown by our local community to set up a funding page for donations to be sent too.

For many of us Burton CC is like a member of our own families and for this to happen to it is deeply upsetting and heart wrenching.

We appreciate times are difficult right now but if you can please donate and spread the word as to what has happened to this beautiful club and let's hope we can recover and continue to play cricket at The Meadows for another 200 years.
