Raising money for treatment/ therapy for our son Charlie, so we can get his arms and hands working again and improve his speech.

For those of you that don‘t know Charlie’s story;

Charlie was born a normal healthy baby, and reached all his milestones as he grew. But in December 2010 suddenly he got seriously ill overnight when he was age 5. Our lifes all chamged from that point. Charlie couldn‘t do anything except move his eyes, he couldn’t walk/ talk or do anything at all, it was a very scary time as doctors didn’t know what was wrong either. He had so many tests and still no answers. Charlie was transfered to The Children’s Trust in Surrey for rehabilation, to get him to walk and talk again. We lived there for almost a year, Charlie was able to walk again at last and he said he’s first word again after a year of not being able to speak, he also he ate for the first time in a year too!

However Charlie’s arms and hands didnt return to normal, doctors said he had the condition called Dystonia, which is a muscle condition that causes pain and spasms, he had it all over his body to start with he was in constant pain and couldn’t keep anything still. But now Charlie is 12 yrs old the Dystonia is just in his arms and hands, we have to feed him/ dress him/ help him with going to the toilet etc. It causes alot of pain for him and his amrs and hands get into some very uncomfortable positions. He has to wear a bike helmet when he goes outside, incase he trips over, he‘s arms can‘t react to stop himself from falling, so the helmet protects his head from knocking himself out.

It’s been a very long and scary journey in the 7 and a half years since Charlie got seroiusly ill, but we keep looking for different treatment / therapy that could help improve Charlie’s arms and hands and improve his speech, so he can do things for himself again one day.
