Story
We are reaching out to raise funds to support the delivery of a community event, which is being held to to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day
This 75th Anniversary of VE Day is likely be the last significant celebration to be held due to our ageing veterans from WW2 so it’s important that we capture those events in history.
LEE VE75 is an event to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day for the community by the community. But with the COVID19 Crisis, the main event programme has been postponed but we'll be online with Facebook Live on May 8th with music and entertainment.
WHEN LEEVE75 ACTUALLY HAPPENS
The vision of LEE VE75 is to bring those veterans, men & women who experienced VE Day first hand together with re-enactment groups and give them the platform to share their experiences with the younger generations of Lee on the Solent, so their memories and the relationship of Lee and its role in the war can be captured, shared and celebrated through an array of elements to create a remarkable and memorable event.
The main event will be held on a Saturday - new date to be confirmed and will be started by a parade to create an amazing atmosphere.
LEE VE75 will be using various areas to create interest for all. We intend to create a living history area with a display of WW2 military and civilian vehicles, along dressed personnel, to help build a legacy of VE Day for future generations. This will be supported by a themed 40's era High Street with displays, entertainment and attractions. The day will finish with a musical picnic on the recreation ground where acts will provide musical entertainment. There will also be a church service at St Faiths on Sunday 10th.
The funding thats raised through here will go towards the infrastructure that’s needed for a successful quality event. Tbis includes items such as staging, PA systems & sound engineers, tents, toilets, fencing, power requirements and security. There’s the decoration of the event including flags & bunting and how these are fixed. There’s the branding, marketing and promotions. Then there’s the costs of acts for the entertainment and attractions throughout the event. With the link between veterans & the pupils of Lee we are wanting to give away a commemorative mug to the pupils and provide food the veterans whilst they are with us during the day.

4 years agoThe planning and organisation for the event is taking shape and is progressing, The main emphasises is to work with Safety Advisory Group regarding the event and to ensure all the planning meets their requirements. LEE VE75 is now the principle event being held on the Gosport peninsula, which means we are reaching a wider audience! Acts and attractions are still being booked so keep an eye the LEE VE75 Facebook page and group for regular updates. Thank you for your support.

Your not local to me. We had a great time celebrating VE Day and looking at everyone’s images and listening to everyone enjoying this memorable day. I hope your event does happen. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Thank you for organising this fitting tribute to our veterans. A fabulous way for our generation to engage as a community. In memory of my father who was stationed at Lee immediately before the war.
