Story
On Sunday 8th March 2026 our beautiful daughter Elsie Violet Doris O'Reilly was born sleeping at 4.04am.
We were told that her heart had stopped beating on Friday 6th March after a period of reduced movements (please get every concern checked!!) , this led to a 3 day hospital stay to begin the process of bringing Elsie into this world as safely as we could.
Stillbirth occurs 1 in every 250 births, this is the equivalent of 8 a day across the UK. With Elsie's story we want to raise awareness of Stillbirth and remove some of the taboo around the subject.
During this incredibly difficult time both me and and Callum along with Elsie and our families were hugely supported by the specialist bereavement team at Worcester Royal Hospital.
This support came in all shapes and sizes from specialist midwifes with extra training, access to the bereavement suite where we spent 3 days and access to the beautiful memorial garden. Every member of this team went above and beyond in their role to ensure not only me and Callum were looked after but provided Elsie with the most respectful care and ensured nothing was too much for anyone. They provided support for our families and allowed them space and room to stay and support us.
During our time in the bereavement centre we were given access to a cold cot to ensure we could spend some very precious and needed time with Elsie before saying our goodbyes - this has been purchased for grieving families to use using previous donations. This was vital to our time with Elsie.
We were also given a special memory box that was purchased using donations. This box included lots of memory making opportunities such as ink for hand and foot prints, clay casting, photo frames and identical knitted teddies.
We are raising funds for the Worcestershire Maternity Bereavement Fund as we have personally seen how vital these funds and donations are to support these grieving families.
Any and all support during this extremely difficult time has been greatly received and we thank you in advance for any moving forward.
Leigh, Callum & Elsie xx
