I have been selected to be part of a team of 10 girls who will go to Zambia with Girlguiding North West England in August 2017. We will be working with the charity The Book Bus, who encourage children to read and provide books to communities who have few. I have to raise £1820 to get there and I will be doing some fundraising here.

Whilst we are there we will be working with local teachers and encouraging reading by working with small groups of children. We will also be encouraging reading by organising games, crafts and songs around book themes, and helping young people to improve their English through conversation and games.

Schools in Zambia are often overcrowded and under resourced, sometimes with more than 80 children to one teacher. The only access most children have to reading is when the book bus visits the school, and therefore the work I will be doing is vital.
