Story
Hi - to celebrate my 60th birthday I am cycling the length of the Kingdom! I have been a trustee for the Capel Almshouse Charity for 20 years and wanted to use the adventure to raise £10,000 with generosity from you who know this village asset, or know the village of Capel, or me, or have just bumped into this and are giving it a moment's thought. Thank you!
This 150 year-old characterful building is home to six people. A legacy to Victorian philanthropy, the building replaced older Almshouses also built as a form of social housing. The Capel Almshouses maintain the directive of providing affordable housing for people with strong links to the village. The charitable trust is run by local volunteers, providing a service to the residents, the building and it's grounds. As the picture shows, it is a significant feature of the village's main street.
My focus for the fundraising are the grounds and walkways at the rear of the building which will be improved to create an attractive safe space for recreation and calm reflection.
My route of "LEJOG" will take 15 days. I'll start on August 1st. Halfway I'm detouring into The Lake District for a few days and joining my wife to complete her Wainwright challenge; she has a few peaks to summit in order to complete the listed 214.
From the Lakes I'll make my way up through Scotland.
As well as a couple of stays with family, I'll be camping along the way. All money raised will go to the Almshouse project and not a penny used for "costs".
If you would like to PLEDGE a sum as an alternative or as an addition to the Justgiving crowdfunding please do let me know this by mailing your "promise" to benashwood66@gmail.com
I am very, very grateful to you for making a donation. Thankyou.
Best wishes,
Ben
