Story
Hello, as a mother of three girls myself, I am trying to help a friend to give her daughter a happy and normal life. This is her story in her own words...
My name is Moneera. I live in Jordan and I am a mother of 3 beautiful girls. The oldest is Mayar, the twin of Limar. The youngest is Rafeef.
Mayar is 4 and half years old and I hope that by contacting you I can make people aware about the disease that my daughter has.
A few months after Mayra was born, my husband and I noticed that Mayar was not developing at the same rate as her twin sister. Then, when the time came to walk we decided to consult a neurologist.
The verdict was clear; Mayar has a spastic diplegia in both her legs.
Since then, we started to take her to the physiotherapy centre 3 times a week and we continue the exercises at home every day. We have also tried injections of botox or botulinum toxin to ease her pain. This needs to be given every 6 months, resulting in paralysis of the injected muscle, preventing it from pulling and causing its release.
I have contacted many doctors and we have found the solution; Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which involves cutting off some of the defective nerve fibers.
I started the process by getting in touch with Dr. Park., a famous professor in this field. Dr. Park has been working for over 25 years at St. Louis Hospital in the Missouri, USA.
After studying my daughter’s file, the reply was optimistic: she is eligible for the SDR, which means that she can get surgery and walk one day, like other children of her age.
Sadly, the treatment is very expensive and the date of the surgery is approaching and I am asking for your help in order to reach the amount required.
This surgery represents a new life! She will be able to go to school, learn, run and play with her twin sister.
I have tried to get in touch with several associations in Jordan but none of them will support us.
My hope is to raise the necessary funds so that Mayar can have surgery as soon as possible at the Saint Louis Hospital in the United States by Dr. Park.
Thanks for reading Mayar’s strory. Please donate, share and help Mayar to walk.
