Story
9 weeks ago our pet dog Lennox, jumped off the settee and yelped as if it hurt him, a couple of days after that he showed symptoms of pain again, this time more persistent, it was a weekend so I took Lennox to an emergency vet where they administered pain relief and identified a problem in his back, we were advised to take him to our own vet for examination, we did the following day, he was prescribed anti-inflammatories and rest for a couple of weeks, this approach was unsuccessful so Lennox was booked in for an x-ray
the x-ray showed signs of a slipped disc and Lennox was referred to a specialist an hour away from where we live, he was booked in for a CT Scan 3 weeks from referral, however Lennox's condition worsened to where he'd yelp and cry out every time he stood up, I rang the vet, explained what was happening, it was suggested he would need MRI scan rather than CT scan, I took him to the appointment less than a week later where it became apparent that he did have a bulging disk in his lower back, however the bulge was on his right side but he was displaying pain on his left side which is unusual, he was sent home with pain killers and to continue with the anti-inflammatories and to return in 2 weeks, a couple of days later Lennox's condition worsened again, he was reluctant to stand up and bear weight on his rear left leg, within the week we were advised a steroid injection may work so we complied, Lennox came home a day later with no signs of improvement even after a week, despite the steroid and increased doses of meds, Lennox was in more pain and unable to bear weight on his hind end, so we were advised that a further MRI and surgery would be necessary, the MRI revealed Lennox has an infection around the disk and surrounding area on both sides, he has been at the vets since and before surgery can be considered the infection must be cleared, due to these unforeseen circumstances the medical costs have exceeded the limit on which he is insured.
