Thankyou for visiting our page!
Leo is a 8 year old boy who has cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus and absent epilepsy, he is very happy and loves to be up and about like other children.
Leo was born 10 weeks early, because of this he had brain scans which revealed he had water and bleeds on the brain, he had a operation to fix this but sadly caught meningococcal septicaemia meningitis he was later fitted with a VP shunt. In 2015 Leo had the SDR operation (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) this helped dramatically with the tightness in his legs but due to Leo growing his muscles getting tight and bone deformity occuring Leo needs more surgery.
Recently we saw Leo's orthopedic surgeon who has said that Leo will need major multi level surgery within the next 4-8 months if we want to keep him on his feet and walking with his frame.Anyone who knows Leo will know how important this is to him.
The surgery is major and ultimately in easy terms Leo would be having 5 operations on each leg resulting in Leo having 10 operations if done separately. The surgeon has said that obviously because of how big the operation will be it will carry massive risks because of the amount of surgery needed and could leave Leo wheelchair bound if complications accure.
With the amount of surgery going to be taking place it will be very important that the correct Physio and equipment is in place for this. Sadly the NHS can only fund Physio 2-3 times a week where in reality Leo will need it consistently 4-5 times a week for 2 years if we are going to have any chance.
We are in for a very tough journey ahead but I hope that the correct Physio and input will keep Leo on his feet for as long as possible.
