Story

Imagine being told the devastating news that your child has cancer? You fall to the floor and it feels like the whole world has been ripped from underneath you, it’s hard to comprehend for anybody who has not been there, but imagine it happening twice in just 4 months.

Leo Redfearn was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma on the 2nd October 2017, after battling a mystery illness for 8 months! a blow no parent should ever have to go through! After settling into routines of MRI’s, MIBG scans, bone marrow aspirates, operations and intense chemotherapy, on the 28th January 2018 Leo’s little brother was diagnosed with stage 3 non Hodgkin’s lymphoma Oliver has been in hospital since that date and has not been able to return home as of yet, he is having intense chemotherapy, which also includes lumbar punctures into his spine with chemotherapy being added into his spinal fluid, this has made Oliver very poorly will usual side affects of chemo.

Oliver at the beginning of this journey when he found out his brother Leo had cancer was so Unbelievably brave and shaved his hair for charity to show the support for his big bro, now they are giving each other strength

Both boys are battling this huge fight together in adjacent hospital beds on the same ward with mum and dad taking it in turns to stay with them. This also has a huge impact on the boys little sister Isobel who has her own behavioural difficulties, which have been made worse by the shock of having her family around her to then only having one parent stay at home with her at a time!

Not only do we want to push for and spread awareness about childhood cancer and to push for more research for proper treatment for children as opposed to adult treatments but we would also like to fundraise for any further treatment these boys may need in the future, there are also lots of different treatments abroad that are being researched if treatments fail in the UK, especially for Leo, as Neuroblastoma is a tricky cancer to treat and as it is a young child’s cancer (under 5’s) Leo’s parents have been told that his age is against him, he started with a 50% chance but due to some of his cancer spots not responding well enough to treatment, his chances have lowered to 40% since starting TVD Chemotherapy

Thats the boys now to keri and shaun the parents of these amazing strong boys they are living this nightmare and wanting to wake up soon and for all this to have just been a dream and for it all to be over but through hard times they will face family and friends are on hand to remain postive for them and the boys

i want to take the time to thank you for reading the redfearn story and for everyones continuing support and king words to follow the boys progress please see (Leo and oliver’s battle together against childhood cancer)

TEAM LEO AND OLIVER COME ON BOYS LETS KICK ASS
