£1,710raised of £1,500 target by 86 supporters

Weʼve raised £1,710 to help fund a new washing machine for Gilgal women's refuge because the current one is failing, damaging precious clothes, and is irreparable.

    Birmingham, United Kingdom
Funded on Tuesday, 10th October 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Gilgal Birmingham is a refuge for women and their children escaping domestic violence. We accommodate and support 14 women some with children, all women have experienced domestic violence such as physical, mental, emotional, sexual or financial abuse. They often arrive here with nothing, only the clothes they are wearing at the time of their escape from home.

We have one washing machine for all the women to use which unfortunately is barely working efficiently and some clothes are now being damaged. We have tried to get it repaired but have been told it needs replacing. We have had a quote for a new machine which is £1600. It needs to be an industrial style washer rather than a domestic due to 14 families using it on a daily basis. The nearest launderette to us is two buses away which makes taking washing there very difficult particularly when travelling with children.

These women have found such courage to leave a violent home, but in finding safety in our temporary refuge they must now try to overcome the powerlessness and despair that they feel . Let’s give them some support to help with rebuilding their day to day lives with hope and dignity - by giving them the convenience and choice to simply have clean clothes.

Morning from Glasgow , 6 hour drive yesterday another 3 hours today. Fitful sleep , nerves are kicking in but fabulous to wake to 80% of my original target raised🎉 So realism turns to ambition - target raised to £1500 - the machine is £1600 & I'll top that up myself no problem. Thank you so much for the donations, it makes me very happy 😘 Giggle of the day 'Alex WHERE's the sign that says Scotland📷 ' 'Lesley its that big bloody blue flag with the white cross' 😂😂😂
